The Fortune Flyers Drumchapel United Women’s football team has been announced as 2005’s Sports Champions at the annual Glasgow Times Community Champions Awards. The award was announced at a gala ceremony at the City Chambers in December and follows a round of heats from community projects from all over the city. Fortune Works initiatives have been nominated for awards in the past, and have won local heats, but this is the first time we have won one of the city-wide awards, and everyone associated with the service is delighted.
The Fortune Flyers football teams have been an important part of Fortune Works for many years now but have gone from strength to strength since we partnered with Drumchapel United, one of Scotland’s most successful and inclusive amateur teams. This has given us access to better facilities, equipment, and coaching support. Most importantly, our links with Drumchapel United have played an important part in ensuring that our service users are connected with their local community. Well done to everyone involved!
