Up until early this year, Glasgow Health and Social Care Partnership facilitated carers’ groups in each of the three HSCP locality areas in the city. However, funding was withdrawn from these and HSCP staff were no longer available to facilitate the three groups. Since then, we have been working with a group of carers in the city, and with one carer in particular, in order to help a new city-wide carers group come into existence. Over the summer, the carer concerned asked for expressions of interest, and to date, more than 100 carers have got in touch to say they would be interested in taking part in such a group.
We’re delighted to report that Glasgow Carers has been formally constituted and was launched at a special ceremony at the City Chambers on 19th November, led by Cllr. Chris Cunningham, Convener for Health, Care & Caring, and Older People. Arrangements for further meetings will be announced soon, and we will keep all our members up to date. Our own carers frequently report that such groups are a good way of accessing mutual support, and in engaging with decision makers in the city. We will be doing all we can to support the new group, and if anyone would like to find out more please let us know.
